A native of Royal Oak, Michigan, Annessa Carlisle spent many years working as a reporter and associate editor for local Detroit newspapers. Like every writer, she was always looking for the perfect story. Her story came in the form of a person who has been tied to the author’s family for years, but has also been tied to a magical place in the Detroit River for a lifetime.

In “Bob-Lo: An Island In Troubled Waters” Carlisle captures the history of the island and the adventures of its longest-residing private resident, Dorothy Tresness.  Tresness, a spunky 85-year-old has a story that is as turbulent as the island itself. She fights to stay on the land that she has owned since the 1950s, even as developers cut off her water, phone and access to transportation. Rather than sell out, Tresness chose to steadfastly stand her ground, resulting in inspiring story of David vs. Goliath proportions.
